Staying Fit and Healthy is a Family Responsibility
The Problem:
According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
the rate of obesity among American children has tripled since
1980. Furthermore, research has shown that from age 13 to 18,
there is a steady decline in adolescent fitness. The American
Council on Exercise (ACE) reports that by the time teenagers
reach high school age almost 63% are physically inactive. Along
with this drastic rise in childhood obesity, medical
professionals are beginning to see adult medical problems (i.e.
Type II Diabetes) – developing in young children. If that’s not
bad enough, it’s been estimated that nearly 3,000 young
teenagers become new smokers every single day.
The Solution:
As Parents we have an obligation to be good role models for our
children. If we lay around all day watching television and
munching chips – children are destined to follow this poor
example. If, however, we stay physically active, eat healthy
foods and encourage children to engage in family fun activities
– children learn positive lifestyle habits that will provide
life-long health and wellness benefits, It’s never too early to
begin setting a good example for your children.
Now is the time to rearrange your priorities and place your
children’s health and well-being at the top of the list.
